About This Course
Food Safety Essentials is designed for students like you who have completed either an online or classroom facilitated Food Safety and Sanitation course and are preparing to take a nationally accredited (ANSI) examination, such as ServSafe or The National Registry of Food Safety Professionals.

Will I Pass The National Exam After Completing This Review Course?

While no one can guarantee a passing grade, my experience has been that students who participate in a comprehensive course review are twice as likely to pass the national examination

What's In The Course?

There are 8 lessons and each one contains a review of the food safety essentials commonly found on all national exams, such as:

  • The need-to-know fundamentals of the Food Flow: purchasing, receiving, storage, preparation, cooking, thawing, cooling, reheating and holding of foods, plus a brief review of HACCP principles.
  • The most important points to remember concerning personal hygiene and general health standards.
  • A review of the biological, chemical, and physical contaminant topics, including food allergens.

Throughout the course you’ll review information in both presentation slide and video format. Most video segments are less than 3 minutes in length and are designed to help you understand the "whys" of the fundamentals, which can give you a big advantage come exam time!

Do I Need to Take Notes?

No! Included in each lesson is a PDF file that contains organized, easy-to-read notes on the topics covered in the slides and video presentations. You can download and print these note pages for future reference.

Are There Practice Tests?

Yes! As you complete each lesson you'll take a quiz to test your knowledge. To make sure you are well prepared for the exam, you’ll want to score 90% or higher on each quiz. But don’t worry, if you miss a few questions, you can go back through the material, find the answer, and retake the quiz.

How Long Does It Take To Complete The Course?

On average, students complete the entire course in about 90 minutes. You do not need to take the entire course in one sitting. You can stop and restart as your schedule permits. You may even choose to select specific lessons for review, instead of taking the entire course. You can use this content in whatever way works best for you, so that you are well prepared and confident before taking the examination.

Is All The Information Up-To-Date?

I regularly update this course to reflect the most recent FDA food code standards, so you can rest assured that you're studying the most current information available.
